All retained earnings are invested in the company and in our environmental programs, such as carbon offsetting. Our long term vision is to undertake further projects as well as sponsorship, training, education and research in a sustainable built environment. Our ultimate goal is to be recorgnised as a leader in practical sustainability, providing a model for the future of Australia's built environment.

Industrial Ecology

Environmentalism and economics are often seen as being at odds. However, these systems are ultimately intertwined, and the way we measure value must change to reflect this.

We are firm believers in industrial ecology. This is the principle that human systems should behave in similar ways to natural systems. Traditionally, human systems have operated on the input of raw materials and energy, with an output of products and waste. This linear notion has contributed to the pollution and environmental problems that we face today. Natural systems have no waste. Everything involved in the system becomes something else that plays a different role in the same system. This circular process is sustainable.

While the Australian building industry is a long way from realising these ideals, progress is being made. We believe that it is essential to promote this way of thinking to ensure a prosperous future for humanity.

The consideration of energy efficency, thermal performance and sustainable building materials and practices is integral to our work. We aim to lower the running costs of buildings, and reduce their impact on the wider environment.

Ideas of network theory and social ecology also play a role in how we structure our business. We believe that passion, pride and motivation in our staff are the best assurance we can give that our work is to the highest standards.
