The Art of the Omie
Steele Associates are firm believers in the value of culture and the arts and have supported and continue to support the work of Drusilla Modjeska, Brennan King and the late David Baker in bringing the art of the Omie people to Australia through various exhibitions. The Omie are a small tribe of people in Papua New Guinea, many of the tribes in Papua New Guinea also make art but nothing like what we see from the Omie. The work is stunningly beautiful and entirely unique - there is nothing like it in the outside world. By selling Omie barkcloths, Omie artists support their art and culture while providing much needed economic benefits to their villages.
"So, very very thanks to Steele Associates, from me, and from Brennan, and from the Omie. It was a very good indeed to be able to tell them that so many white people in Australia were supporting them."
Drusilla Modjeska, Author
